Jerry was born in 1945 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Donora, Pennsylvania attended St. Dominic’s Catholic School and graduated from Monongahela Valley Catholic High School in 1963 as the Senior Class Vice-President. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963 immediately after high school and served 23 years. He met and married his wife Patricia in 1965 while stationed at Limestone, Maine. In the military the Kozar family was assigned to military facilities in Maine, Florida, Mississippi, New Mexico, Washington, D.C, Texas, and Japan. Jerry also served two tours of duty in Vietnam. While in the military he earned his B.S. from the University of Maryland in Political Science and a M.S. in Government and Public Administration from the University of Southern Illinois at Edwardsville. He retired from the military in1986 while stationed at Lackland AFB.
After retirement Jerry received his Texas Teacher Certificate from St. Mary’s University. From 1988-1999, he taught social studies at Zachery Middle School and Clark High School with the Northside Independent School District. He also served as an adjutant instructor at San Antonio College, Government Department, from 1981-2000. He continued and completed his education careers in the business world at Harcourt Assessment Inc. working as a Senior Test Development Manager until his retirement in February 2007
PRESENT PARISH ASSIGNMENT: Jerry and Patricia have been parishioners of St. Anthony Mary Claret Parish since 1996. Patricia currently works at the parish as the Pastoral Assistant. Jerry’s past ministries have included: Coordinator for the Ministers of Hospitality; Chairman, Stewardship Committee; Member of the Worship Committee; Lector, Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion; taught Confirmation classes for teens; Member of the Church Building Committee; Co-Chairman of the Church Building Capital Campaign; Chairman of the Church Dedication Committee.
Jerry is a member of Council 10090, Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree). Jerry and Patricia are members of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem.
MINISTRIES PRESENTLY PERFORMED: Jerry’s current ministries include: Chaplain and Class Instructor to the RCIA Program and Coordinator for Altar Servers.
