Mike Muñoz & Rosa


Mike R. Muñoz is a parishioner of Mission San José in San Antonio. He and his wife Rosa have two children, Linda Muñoz Zehr, 37; and Mike R. Muñoz, Jr., 36. Mike was born on Jan. 6, 1944, in Floresville. He is the oldest of four children born to Luis and Dora Muñoz. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1958 and Sacred Heart High School in 1962. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served as an Airborne Ranger in the Republic of Vietnam. He was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action, two Purple Hearts, and a Combat Infantry Badge. Following his military service he enrolled in St. Mary’s University in 1969 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1969, followed by a master’s degree in economics in 1988. Currently, he is an assistant professor of economics at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, where he is the Campus Ministry sponsor. His daughter and son are both professors of economics and Ph.D. candidates. Mike and his wife owned and operated three McDonald’s franchises for 15 years before retiring and entering the diaconate program. Mike is a licensed pilot and incorporates this skill into his ministry. He serves on several boards and committees. At San José, Mike is an extraordinary minister of holy Communion, a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, and is active in Project Casa San Juan Diego for seminarian vocations at the parish.
